A WOULD-BE bride has hailed her knight in shining armour for helping her through a nightmare health battle.
Hartlepool woman Remi-jay Jackson, 21, was rushed into the University Hospital of Hartlepool with a suspected bleed on the brain.
She stayed in for three days while doctors carried out tests to identify the mystery condition which was causing her migraines and blackouts.
She underwent CT and MRI scans as well as a lumbar puncture during the drama last September.
She admitted: “It was really worrying. They had to get an ambulance to come to where I worked and take me to hospital.”
Experts eventually diagnosed her with a cyst behind her right eye and she will see a consultant later this month to establish the correct sort of treatment.
At the same time, Remi-jay is also facing up to redundancy. Her work as a family separation case worker with the Citizens’ Advice Bureau, in Hartlepool, ends in March.
All the while, her fiance Derek Hunter, 22, has been by her side.
She said: “I wish I could tell the whole world how much I love him but I can only do it through the Mail.”
Now Remi-jay has entered this year’s Bride of the Year competition which is being run in conjunction with Robert Usher Photography.
One lucky bride-to-be and her fiance will get to win a dream £10,000 wedding in September.
Remi-jay, from Bakers Mead, in Hartlepool, is hoping she can win it to show her love for Derek, who works at the Kerry Ingredients factory, in Hartlepool.
She said: “I don’t believe I deserve this. I’m your average woman with big ambitions, but I feel Derek does.
“This would be a fantastic opportunity to show him how much I really do appreciate what a fabulous fiance and person he is.”
The couple first met as pupils when they were both 11 years old and attended Henry Smith School in town.
They next saw each other six years later when, by chance, they were at the same party.
Remi-jay said: “The day I met him again, I knew he was the one for me.
“After only a few months, Derek proposed to me and I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him. Derek has such a warm heart and I love him for being him and all that he does for me.”
The couple say they can not marry because of the finances involved.
But they’re hoping to win the day of their dreams in our competition.
Remi-jay said: “Words would not be able to describe how I would feel.”
