A tireless behind-the-scenes worker has been praised as a “top man” for the way he campaigns on behalf of a Hartlepool charity.
Kevin Hill is in the running for a Best of Hartlepool Award because of his work with Miles for Men.

But modest Kevin played down his own role and said he is just one part of a fantastic team.
He added: “I have always said this is a team game. I do a lot of running about, but I have always got a team to fall back on.

“I have a grandchild, and when you see other families struggling with problems such as cancer, it really nails it for me. It’s a choker, a no-brainer. I have seen it with my own eyes.”
Miles for Men was first set up by fellow Hartlepool man Michael Day in 2012 after losing his father, Michael senior, to throat cancer in 2007.
It started out with a sponsored run to raise money for cancer research, and it has become so popular that the fundraising total has soared since.
Last year, Michael won the Judges’ Choice awards at Best of Hartlepool. Now Kevin is hoping to keep the charity in the limelight by winning as well.
Kevin said he was “over the moon” to have been nominated. The entry for him said: “Top man. Always thinking about others and puts a lot of time into fundraising for the passion he loves.”
He joins a growing list of candidates for our awards, but there’s plenty of time to nominate your own favourites.
The Best of Hartlepool Awards will honour unsung stars who go the extra mile to help others. We know there are heroes galore out there who are worthy of awards. Tell us all about them.

And then it’s on to the grand finale which will be held this year at the Hardwick Hall Hotel on Tuesday, April 26.
