Top rating for care homes in survey

Two care homes in Blackhall Colliery have been praised after both performed strongly in a nationwide survey.

The results of the Your Care Rating study show Field View was given an overall performance rating score of 977 out of 1,000 by the residents, while Yohden received 956, and 878 by families and friends. This compares favourably to the national averages of 880 for residents and 828 for families and friends.

It is the fourth year in a row that the homes have scored above the national average.

Each care home was given was given an overall score based on the residents’ feedback and a second on the family and friends’ feedback across four broad themes - staff and care, home comforts, choice and having a say, and quality of life.

Field View achieved 990 for quality of life and 980 for staff and care. Their friends and families also highly rated the standard of care for quality of life and home comforts with scores of 911 and 907 respectively.

Yohden achieved 978 for quality of life and 970 for choice and having a say.

Michelle Howarth, home manager at Field View, said: “It’s great that not just our residents, but their families and friends value the care they receive at Field View.

“Most of our scores across the four themes are really positive.”

Maxine Lee, home manager at Yohden added: “While we’re really pleased with our scores, we obviously want to get even better and the survey helps us do that by giving us direct resident and friends and family feedback.

“Families can also see which care homes are committed to raising standards and being transparent as they take part in the survey.”

“Every care home resident, and their family and friends, should be able to speak up about their care and this is what the Your Care Rating survey does – it gives them a voice.”

Now in its fifth year, the survey is the country’s largest and most authoritative of care home residents and now their families and friends.

It gives residents and their families and friends a voice, putting their care at the heart of understanding more about how well care homes perform.

More than 18,000 residents in 914 care homes across the UK responded while 47 per cent of relatives and friends at 643 homes responded.
