‘Torture’ case officers’ sentence adjourned

TWO police staff who assaulted a prisoner will have to wait to learn their fate.

Police custody sergeant Stephen Harvey, 50, twisted shopkeeper David Healer’s arm while civilian detention officer Michael Mount, 61, looked on.

The attack, condemned as “a form of torture”, happened at Peterlee Police Station when Mr Healer, 48, was arrested on suspicion of breaching bail.

Harvey, of Fenwick Close, Chester-le-Street, and Mount, of Dunelm Road, Thornley, were due to be sentenced at Teesside Magistrates’ Court after being convicted of assault by beating.

But the case was adjourned until Friday, May 11.
