Tragedy as man dies while travelling on bus in Hartlepool

A man in his 50s has sadly died while travelling on a bus in Hartlepool.

Emergency services were called to Raby Road, near the junction of Chester Road, after a man was found dead on a bus.

The North East Ambulance Service sent a rapid response crew and a double crew ambulance to the scene, but the man, said to be aged in his 50s, was found to have passed away while on the bus.

Passengers were asked to leave the bus while paramedics tried to save the man at around 3.30pm on Thursday.

Cleveland Police said they are not treating the death as suspicious.

A spokeswoman for the force said: “Police attended an incident at around 4pm on Thursday, October 19, where a man in his 50s was found to have passed away while on a bus in Raby Road in Hartlepool.

“His death is not believed to be suspicious.”

A North East Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “We were called around 3.30pm to reports that a patient was unwell on a bus in Hartlepool.

“We sent a rapid response crew and a double crew ambulance and the patient was taken to hospital.
“We left the scene just before 5pm.”

Meanwhile a passenger who was travelling on the bus service has spoken of her shock following the incident.

She said she has believed that the man was just asleep, but it was later discovered that he wasn’t breathing.

She said: “An ambulance was called as one of the passengers seemed to have died.
“He was thought to be asleep at first, but was later discovered that he wasn’t breathing.

“Me and the other passengers had to leave as paramedics tried CPR.”
