Transport concerns over hospital service moves

HOSPITAL chiefs say they are committed to ensuring patients and visitors in Hartlepool will be able to get to the Stockton site.

The North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust has two 17-seater shuttle buses on order which would be used to transport patients and visitors from Hartlepool to the University Hospital of North Tees.

Officials say they would be available for anyone who needs to get between the two sites.

Transport plans are yet to be confirmed, but a trust spokeswoman said they would also be looking to recruit a fleet of volunteer drivers willing to transport people who need to get to Stockton, in their own cars.

Concerns over transport have been raised in the report by the NCAT review team.

The report said: “The public needs to see action taken about their concerns regarding transport and availability of appropriate public services between the two sites.

“Additionally the North East Ambulance Service needs to ensure they have sufficient capacity to deliver the increased numbers of transfers that might arise.”
