Woman dies in A19 smash

A WOMAN was killed in a horror smash with a tractor.

Emergency services raced to the A19 after a black Vauxhall Corsa and a tractor and trailer collided just after 3pm yesterday.

The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her passenger was taken to the University Hospital of North Tees, Stockton, where her condition is not believed to be life threatening.

The smash happened on the northbound carriageway around half a mile south of the Ron Perry garage, on the outskirts of Hartlepool.

The road was closed for more than six hours while emergency services dealt with the aftermath of the crash.

Both the driver and the passenger are thought to be from the Durham area.

Police are now appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

l A CAR ended up on its side after a two-vehicle collision.

The incident took place on the B1281, in Castle Eden near to Castle Eden Golf Club, at around noon on Saturday.

Police raced to the scene after receiving reports of the collision involving a silver Hyundai Getz and a red Audi.

The Hyundai car was on its side when police arrived.

A 54-year-old woman and a 70-year-old woman escaped with minor injuries.

They were taken to the University Hospital of North Tees, in Stockton, and treated for minor injuries.
