Tree-mendous for recycling

RESIDENTS do not need to leave their home to recycle their real Christmas trees.

People living in Billingham, Wolviston and parts of Wynyard are being advised by Stockton Borough Council chiefs to leave them with their green wheelie bin to be collected on their usual bin day.

The collection of Christmas trees will start across the borough on Tuesday, January 10.

Residents should put trees out with their household waste by 7am.

Councillor David Rose, the council’s cabinet member for the environment, said: “Once Christmas is over it’s time to put away the decorations and dispose of your tree.

“It couldn’t be easier to do this thanks to Stockton Council’s Care For Your Area team who will collect your real tree from your home.”

The trees are sent to the council’s green waste disposal facility where they are turned into compost.
