Tributes to police chief

TRIBUTES have been paid to a senior police officer who died yesterday.

Cleveland Police has paid tribute to its Head of Crime, Detective Chief Superintendent Stewart Swinson, who was based at police HQ in Middlesbrough.

It is believed Det Chf Supt was found on land close to Yarm High Street shortly after 9.20am today.

Emergency services were in the area at Yarm Bridge, opposite The Blue Bell Pub.

Inquiries are ongoing into the circumstances surrounding the married dad of two’s death, but police say it is not being treated as suspicious.

Temporary Chief Constable of Cleveland Police, Jacqui Cheer, said: “Our thoughts are with Stewart’s family, friends and colleagues at this difficult time.

“Stewart had a great passion for the job he did; he was dedicated, hardworking and respected by everyone who knew him and who worked with him.

“He was an extremely valued member of Cleveland Police and we shall all miss him greatly.”
