TWO spirited women are in the running for an award – for a community project they only started two months ago.

Heidi Redmond-Ahmed, 33, and Lucy Patterson, 35, only came up with the idea in December last year for a Twitter link promoting Hartlepool.

But within days, they had hundreds of followers for their site called Hartlepool Hour which promotes all issues to do with the town.

It runs three times a week and already has more than 350 followers.

Now, it is in the running in the Community section of the Pride of Hartlepool awards.

Co-founder Heidi said: “It’s quite a shock to be nominated. I didn’t think setting it up would lead to anything like this but someone out there must like us.”

She explained how Hartlepool Hour started.

“Me and Lucy were sat one day and we said ‘wouldn’t it be good to set up a Hartlepool Hour on Twitter?’ I set it up straight away.”

It’s a remarkable development for the two women who have only known each other for six months.

Heidi runs a Hartlepool company called Make Scents which is based in Park Road and creates bath bombs, lotions, hand creams, topical rubs and massage oils.

She said Lucy came to see her because she had been recommended to see Heidi when she went to numerous networking events in the town.

Heidi said: “It was a total meeting of minds.”

The couple are now in the running for an award and we want more nominations for our Pride in Hartlepool competition.

We are calling on our readers to nominate that special person or people who have done something that you believe deserves recognition.

From 999 heroes to community champions – help us celebrate those who have done their town proud.

The ten categories are Sporting Achievement; Community Group; Community Champion; Student of the Year; Fundraiser of the Year; Child of Courage; Local Hero; Green Champion; Emergency Services and Young Performer of the Year.

You have until early March to put forward your favourites and we want to make this a record year for entry numbers – but we can only do that with your help.
