TWO people were taken to hospital and a carriageway was closed after a car flipped onto its roof on the A19.

One crew from Stranton Fire Station and two appliances from Stockton were called to the A19 southbound, just north of Elwick, near Hartlepool, at around 2.30pm on Sunday.

One of the cars had flipped over onto a barrier and hit a lamp post before landing on its roof.

Two people were taken to the University Hospital of North Tees with non life-threatening injuries.

Meanwhile, fire crews from Stockton and Billingham attended a fire at a residential garage in Tunstall Avenue, Billingham around 5.50am on Saturday. Damage was caused to the garage and a nearby conservatory.
