TWO men have been arrested in connection with a horrific hammer attack on an elderly couple.
The men, aged 40 and 50, were being questioned following the incident at the couple’s home in Ryehill Gardens, off Hart Lane, in Hartlepool.
As reported in yesterday’s Mail, the terrified 80-year-old man and 76-year-old woman were threatened before being attacked by intruders.
The raiders got away with a substantial amount of cash, and the man suffered a broken collar bone in the horrifying attack.
The incident happened around 12.10am on Wednesday, when two raiders armed with a hammer and what police described as a “sharp instrument” burst into their home.
The men were being quizzed by detectives at Hartlepool Police Station last night.
