A SINGING schoolboy is through to the area finals of a find-a-star competition.

Twelve-year-old Tyler Lewis, who goes by the stage name Ty Lewis, performed at the regional final of the Teen Star UK contest at the Volvo Tyne Theatre, in Newcastle.

The talented youngster wowed judges with his performance of David Guetta’s Titanium song – securing a place in the area finals for the North-East and Scotland, which will take place on May 12.

Tyler’s proud mum, Mandy Booth, 43, a travel agent, of Sledmere Close, in the High Grange area of Billingham, said she was delighted by his performance.

She said: “He was really good and it was quite nerve-wracking.

“Mind you, I was the one with the nerves, he was absolutely fine.

“I think he’s the only boy that got through and he just loved it.”

His proud mum said he has an interest in performing, but her has never put his talents into practice like this before.

She added: “He has a singing teacher and he goes to a music youth group, but it’s the first time he’s ever done anything like this.”

If Tyler, a pupil from Northfield School and Sports College, in Billingham, wins the competition he will bag himself a recording contract and a chance to perform at the O2 Arena, in London, against people from across the UK.
