Unemployment down for seventh month in row

THE number of people in Hartlepool claiming unemployment benefits has fallen for the seventh month in a row.

The total number of working age men and women claiming JobSeekers’ Alllowance in August was 4,169.

That was down by 83 people from 4,252 in July, but still means 7.2 per cent of the working population are out of work – more than twice the national average which stands at 3.3 per cent.

For the Easington parliamentary constituency, claimants were down by 116 ion the last month to 3,009 people.

In Stockton North, which covers Billingham, Wolviston and parts of Wynyard, the figure was also slightly down by 24 to 3,786.

In Sedgefield, 2,228 people claimed JSA in August, down 23 on July.
