A UNION boss has been suspended pending an “internal investigation”, the Club and Institute Union (CIU) said.
Mick McGlasham, 62, has been suspended from his role as national general secretary with the union.
Mr McGlasham represented 228 social clubs and venues in Hartlepool and east Durham when he was branch secretary for the CIU’s Durham branch.
The former Horden Labour Club secretary was branch secretary for seven years.
He was appointed national secretary two years ago.
CIU president George Dawson, would only say Mr McGlasham had been suspended following an “internal investigation” when the Hartlepool Mail contacted him at his base in Halifax.
Mr McGlasham also held a position on the CIU’s National Executive Committee for six years before taking up his role in London and held a role on its accounts committee.
The CIU represents six million members and more than 300 social clubs in the North-East.
Mr McGlasham was unavailable for comment when contacted by the Mail.
