Two appliances from Hartlepool Community Fire Station extinguished a small fire on the roof of the ECG Unit.

A spokeswoman for the North East and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust said: “An external contractor was drying out the area with a blow torch.

“It is suspected that a small piece of debris caught alight, but was very quickly extinguished.

“Smoke from the incident had reached the vents and travelled into an area of the hospital.”

The fire brigade declared the building safe after inspection and Cleveland Police confirmed that their officers did not attend.
