POLICE are trying to trace the owner of a van-load of stolen steel.
Officers recovered the metal when two men from Hartlepool were stopped driving a white Transit van - with Practical Van Hire written on the side - on August 26.
A large quantity of steel was found in the back of the van, which is believed to have been stolen from the Northallerton area, in North Yorkshire.
It had been marked with numbers as if it was being prepared for assembly or had recently been dismantled.
The men, aged 31 and 34, were arrested and released on police bail while inquiries continue.
Anyone who believes the steel might belong to them, or who can help the police with their investigation, contact Northallerton Police on (0845) 6060247, quoting the reference number 12110143008, or Crimestoppers on (0800) 555111.
