RAIL passengers faced disruption this morning after a signalling problem.
Commuters in Hartlepool faced delays after vandals targeted equipment near Stockton Railway Station, which had a knock-on affect to services across the region.
The 7.09am Grand Central service from Hartlepool to London Kings Cross and the 8.02am Northern Rail service to Newcastle were both cancelled.
The Grand Central service was diverted via Darlington.
Trains between Middlesbrough and Darlington were running up to 30 minutes late, while buses replaced trains between Middlesbrough and Stockton.
Northern Rail laid on replacement bus services for its passengers.
Services were expected to return to normal at about 9.30am.
