COASTGUARD chiefs were alerted to a boat that suffered mechanical failure off the coast of Hartlepool.

Humber Coastguard was radioed by a pleasure craft that was 12 miles east off the coast of the town reporting gearbox trouble, around 1.45pm on Sunday.

But the vessel, which had three people on board, managed to make its own way into Hartlepool Marina.

The boat arrived at 3.40pm.
