MORE than 200 nominees have been put forward for an annual awards night – now it’s down to people to vote for their favourite.

The cream of Hartlepool’s performing talent will be on show at the Red Dreams Awards 2012, which will be held in December.

But despite the awards night still being two months away, nominations for the 24 categories have been finalised and an online vote is now open.

People have until October 30 to log on to Red Dreams’ website and vote for their favourite in the various categories.

The top four or five nominees with the most votes in each category will then go forward to an independent judging panel before the winners are announced at the awards ceremony, which will take place at the Corporation Club, in Whitby Street on Friday, December 21.

Dawn McManus, 42, who set up Red Dreams after the death of her 16-year-old son Kyle, in 2006, said: “Everyone who is involved with Red Dreams worked really hard to get nominated.

“It’s good that it now gets taken out of our hands and the public get to vote for their favourite and it’s also a great chance for our performers and people involved to publicise themselves.”

Categories for this year’s awards night include best guitarist, best cover song, best songwriter, best photographer and best actor.

Two hall of fame awards will be handed out along with breakthrough awards and recognition for best live performances.

Dawn, who runs Red Dreams with her husband, Ian, also 42, added: “The standard of entry is incredibly high so those who are voting certainly have a job on their hands.

“We have over 200 nominees which is absolutely fantastic, it took Ian ages to put them all up on the website.”

Messages from celebrities including Frank Turner and Bloc Party as well as live performances from Red Dreams members will feature at the awards.

People can only vote online in each category once.
