Vulnerable man was attacked in own home

A THUG has admitted beating up a vulnerable man in his own home in a terrifying early-morning attack.

The 31-year-old victim was left battered and bruised after being attacked with blunt instruments by David Rutherford.

The attack happened shortly after the victim was involved in an altercation between another man and a woman at around 1.20am on Tuesday, November 2, last year.

Rutherford then followed the victim in his house in Mapleton Road, Hartlepool, where he attacked him.

He was left with cuts, bruises and swelling to his face.

Michelle Clayton, 35, also went inside the house and stole £20 from the man before the pair ran off.

They both entered guilty pleas over the incident when they appeared at Teesside Crown Court.

Rutherford, 32, of Romaine Park, Hartlepool, pleaded guilty to causing actual bodily harm.

He was remanded in custody by the judge.

Clayton, also of Romaine Park, Hartlepool, admitted burglary and was released on bail.

They will be sentenced on Friday, February 18.
