A VULNERABLE pensioner was targeted by callous conmen with 100 scam letters a month.
The 75-year-old woman lost almost £1,000 of her life savings by paying for overpriced goods after being promised thousands of pounds in luxury prizes.
A Hartlepool trading standards officer described the scam as one of the worst cases he had come across in town.
In one case, the woman paid £11 for a small bag of candied dates and £25 for two bottles of multi-vitamins that cost just a couple of pounds on the high street.
