CHILDREN and parents are being encouraged to leave the car at home and walk to school all this week.
Hartlepool Borough Council’s sustainable travel and road safety team is encouraging residents to take part in Walk to School Week, running from today until Friday.
The campaign is being run by charity Living Streets as part of National Walking Month.
Sally Fixter, Living Streets Hartlepool project co-ordinator, said: “Walking is key to fighting childhood obesity, but it can also be beneficial to children in other ways – helping them learn vital road safety skills, to interact with their local environment and to become streetwise and develop independence.”
