Walking towards fitness

PEOPLE are urged to put their hiking boots on for the latest in a new series of guided walks to help people build up their fitness and enjoy the countryside.

The event, called Walking The Way To Health, is being held tomorrow from 10am to 3pm and will follow a five-and-a-half mile circular route.

It will be led by Hannah Woodhouse, Hartlepool Borough Council’s countryside and rights of way assistant.

She said: “We’ll be walking through the farmland to the north of Hart village, then along the Durham dunes and coastal path and back to the Hart area again.

“As well as being relaxing and fun trip out, it’s an excellent way to improve your fitness and boost your energy.

“I’m aiming to hold one of these walks every month, each time increasing the length to ease people into walking longer distances.”

The walk is free but places must be booked in advance by calling Hannah on (01429) 523419.

People should make sure that they come prepared with a packed lunch and wear appropriate footwear and suitable clothing.
