PEOPLE are being urged to be vigilant after two pickpockets targeted a woman.
She was walking near the junction of Victoria Road and York Road, in Hartlepool, when two men sneaked up on her and tried to grab her purse out of her pocket.
But she felt their attempt and both made off without getting anything.
Police are now warning other people to be on their guard during the busy festive period.
A Cleveland Police spokeswoman said: “Two males approached a female from behind and one tried to remove her purse from out of her jacket pocket. The female felt this and they have been disturbed.
“We are concerned with it being the run up to Christmas that people need to be extra vigilant.”
The incident happened at around 3.05pm on Saturday, November 26.
The first suspect is described as white, 15 to 18 years old, around 5ft 6ins-tall and of average build. He was wearing a bright red tracksuit jacket with white stripes down the arms, black tracksuit bottoms and light coloured trainers. He was also wearing a black, woollen hat.
The second man is around the same age and height with short brown hair and is of slim build. He was wearing a dark coloured jacket or coat, dark blue jeans, dark footwear and had a grey coloured rucksack on his back.
Anyone with information about the incident or suspects is asked to ring PC Victoria Robson, of Hartlepool Police, on (01642) 302110 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
