Hartlepool businesses are being urged to keep their bins secure after a spate of fires in commercial bins last night.
Crews from Stranton Fire Station were called to a handful of bins on fire in the area of Scarborough Street between 8pm and 10pm on Wednesday.
A brigade spokesman said there were five or six fires in the space of an-hour-and-a-half to two hours.
“We suspect it’s deliberate because of so many fires in the same area in a short space of time,” he said.
“I would ask business owners and residents in the local area to try to keep their bins as secure as possible.
“It ties up vital resources elsewhere . We are working with local partners, like the police and community wardens to try and drive this down, using CCTV and things like that.”
