THESE chip shop staff stepped up to the challenge in the latest internet craze – and then had a second dunking in the North Sea.
Pez and Michelle Lane, owners of The Almighty Cod, at Seaton Carew, along with 17 brave members of staff, are the latest to take part in the ice bucket challenge.
The staff gathered on the beach, where they tipped ice-cold buckets of water over their heads, before they turned and ran into the sea.
In doing so, they have raised around £500 for the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA), with staff also kindly donating their tips.
Fellow employee Lisa Allen, who had already taken part in the challenge after being put forward for it online, nominated her colleagues.
In turn, Almighty Cod staff have now nominated workers from the Fish Face fish and chip shop over the road and, according to Almighty Cod waiter Phillip Riley, Fish Face accepted and did theirs afterwards.
Phillip, 19, said: “It was cold.It was good though, and we got a little bit of team-building going. The bucket water was colder than the sea. Every little bit helps and it’s good to raise awareness of the condition.”
