TODAY marks the 10-year anniversary since Hartlepool United were narrowly beaten in the League One Play-Off final at Cardiff.
Can you believe a decade has passed already? To mark the anniversary the Hartlepool Mail is producing a special supplement for Saturday’s paper with interviews from the key players that day.
Ritchie Humphreys, Michael Nelson, Micky Barron and Antony Sweeney were an integral part of the most successful side in the club’s history and they recount their memories of that campaign.
Backed by 17,000 fans, Pools came within eight minutes of Championship football for the first time in the club’s history.
Goals from Eifion Williams and Jon Daly saw them come from behind to lead Sheffield Wednesday only for the final to go horribly wrong when Chris Westwood was adjudged to have fouled Drew Talbot in the area and Pools were reduced to ten men and saw their lead wiped out from the penalty spot.
The Owls used their man advantage well during the extra time, winning 4-2 in the end.
