We heard it on the grapevine that you loved the memories
Memories came flooding back for thousands of Hartlepool Mail readers when we reminded them of the Grapevine club.
It’s hard to believe but 25 years have flown by since Grapevine packed the youth of Hartlepool into parties and nightclubs.
And your general consensus of opinion was, you all had a great time.
We asked you if you remembered the days when teenagers got their own chance to meet up and enjoy a night out at venues such as the Gemini night club in Villers Street.
Nearly 13,000 of you spotted the article and loads of you came up with comments.
It seems you loved to reminisce on the days when 11 to 17-year-olds had their own meeting place courtesy of the Hartlepool Mail initiative which gave youngsters a place to go.
Johny Horsley was one of the people to respond and described the Grapevine days as “great times” while Sharon Simpson said: “The atmosphere was great.”
Joanne Sharp loved it because: “It was the only place where kids our age could all meet up.”
Gail Mitchell commented: “Eeee brings back memories” and remembered having chips in a basket at Grapevine.
It seems that thousands of you enjoyed Grapevine including Tarena Oates, Alison Roe who remembered “great times”, Pamela Smith who “loved them” and Paula Richardson who also gave it a thumbs-up.
Sarah Daniel recalled the “Brill nights dodgy fashion” while Debbie Temple agreed: “It was a great night haha x.”
Grapevine was a popular feature of the Mail in the 1980s and early 90s also included a bulletin board for members to send messages to their friends.
We would love to hear from more of you who took part in the phenomenon that was Grapevine.
What was it that you loved about it?
Was it the cameraderie? The chance to meet up with friends?
Did you go to all the discos and what about the bulletin board? Did you contribute.
Or perhaps it was the Grapevine beach part which grabbed your attention.
Give us more of your memories.
