ONE of Hartlepool’s biggest sporting talents today urged the town to get behind the Hartlepool Mail Sports Awards.
Savannah Marshall won Britain’s first ever women’s boxing world title last year.
Then, she added to her CV by winning the European Union Championship title earlier this month.
Now, she has given her support to our inaugural awards which hopes to reward many of the undoubted sporting talents in our town.
We launched our brand new competition yesterday and have already had backing from Hartlepool United manager Colin Cooper and assistant manager Craig Hignett.
Now another major name in the town’s sporting world has backed the appeal.
Savannah said: “Something like this is really great for Hartlepool. It is good that the town is supporting its sport and recognising its sporting achievement.”
One of Hartlepool’s finest said the awards deserved praise for “giving that little bit of recognition to people.”
Savannah said the awards would also help to give some of the town’s elite “that extra bit of a boost.”
