Young girl in ‘critical’ condition and boy ‘stable’ after car flips over in Hartlepool

Two children are in hospital with serious injuries after a crash on the A689.

Police are appealing for witnesses after a black Fiat Punto flipped over at around 2.30pm on the northbound carriageway of the A689 Belle Vue Way, Hartlepool, directly opposite Extreme Fitness.

A girl aged five who was travelling in the vehicle suffered serious head injuries and was taken to James Cook University Hospital where she is described as being in a ‘critical but stable’ condition.

A boy aged ten who was also travelling in the vehicle, suffered a head injury and internal injuries. He is described as being in a ‘stable’ condition at James Cook University Hospital.

The driver of the vehicle, a 29-year-old woman from the Hartlepool area, suffered soft tissue damage and a head injury. She was not detained in hospital.
