Attacking talents Jake Orrell and Josh Hawkes will be in the starting line-up for the Central League fixture at York City (kick-off 1pm).

The teenagers are in what is expected to be a youthful Pools second string side under the guidance of Sam Collins at Bootham Crescent.

Both players were in the Pools squad for Saturday’s brilliant 3-1 win over Exeter City at the Northern Gas & Power Stadium.

Attacking midfielder Hawkes, a product of the club’s Academy, has been in Dave Jones’s first-team squad for the last six matches.

He travelled with the squad to Mansfield, but did not feature in the 18-man squad but has been in the matchday squad for the last five games.

Hawkes, who joined the club as a 14-year-old, has come on at the end of the wins over Crewe and Exeter and recently scored the late winner when Pools Reserves beat Mansfield 2-1 at Billingham Town.

Orrell has not come through the Pools Academy, having been schooled by hometown club Sunderland as a youngster.

The diminutive forward was signed last summer from Chesterfield, then boss Craig Hignett describing the 19-year-old as a potential dark horse for the first team.

Orrell was named in the Pools squad on Saturday against the Grecians, having made three appearances in the Checkatrade Trophy earlier in the season.

He had been due to go on loan to Spennymoor in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier Division only for the one-month arrangement to be cancelled at the last minute.

But Orrell has clearly shown enough in training to get exposure in the first-team squad.

Matthew Bates, who was on the bench for the win over Exeter after recovering from a hamstring strain, will not be included in today’s reserve team.

Pools though could field a triallist or two this afternoon.
