A little thought

WHEN we’re very close to the new year,

We should really look back over the old.

And think of changes that quietly slipped by,

And the promises we broke in the mould.

It’s easy just being a year

And to pretend we’re wiser as well.

Life teaches us a wealth of experience,

As the cat said, as he fell down the well.

Just a little thought for the friends we lost,

And a thank you to those still here.

Good luck to the forces keeping us safe,

And to their families who live with the fear.

When we ring out the old and ring in the new,

We hope the new year will be better.

So from me to you, and all in the queue,

Let your new years get brighter and better.
