First tenants on the estate

editorial image

I am writing regarding the photograph of the number 12 bus to Clavering estate (Mail, November 21).

My hubby and I were the first tenants on the estate.

We moved in on September 9, 1965.

At the time I worked in Lynn Street, and had to get the United bus, which ran along the Coast Road, having to walk up to the estate.

We had no pavements nor lights then.

The buses started, I think, about 1966.

We ran a Sunday school in our home for quite a few years and we loved every minute.

I have really happy memories of those early days on the estate.

It was a lovely community.
