JUST to say well done to your columnist, Alan Wright, for his piece (Mail, June 16) regarding the treatment of D-Day veteran Jim Peakes.
He was refused a passport because there was an extra “e” in his middle name on his application, thus denying him the chance to go back to pay his respects to those who didn’t come back.
Alan was quite right with his comments on the way he was treated.
How things change.
I am sure that Jim and his comrades had no such problems with people checking their passports 70 years ago.
