LETTER: A&E expansion is a cruel deception

THE expansion of A&E announced recently is, in my view, nothing but a cruel deception just prior to the General Election and council elections.

The A&E department at James Cook University Hospital is massively under pressure as is that at the University Hospital of North Tees.

I was in the walk-in centre at Darlington A&E myself four weeks ago.

The patients for A&E in ambulances and on trolleys were forming queues out the door.

The expansion being proposed will take months to plan and years to achieve.

Re-open the facilities we once had at Bishop Auckland and Hartlepool instead.

Appoint a new paediatrician at Northallerton, and re-open a full A&E there.

The problems will then be solved overnight.
