LETTER: Listen to the public over hospital’s future

The University Hospital of Hartlepool
The University Hospital of Hartlepool

I WOULD like to say how delighted I was with the views expressed by Messrs Coun Geoff Lilley and Coun Keith Fisher.

They appear to be the only ones that talk sense on our council regarding the shelving of our “pie in the sky” new hospital at Wynyard.

I would also like to congratulate our MP Mr Iain Wright for supporting the calls to bring services back to Hartlepool where they belong.

It is paramount that public safety is addressed, and an essential part of that is bringing services back to the people of Hartlepool so that they can sleep easy in their beds knowing if they were ill they would not have to travel 14 miles down the road to get treatment.

I also, like Coun Lilley, agree that trust leaders should resign in respect that their plans have fallen down “like a pack of cards”, and I can guarantee that if I went into the street now and surveyed public opinion of the people of Hartlepool with regards to whether they want a new hospital all would be opposed to it, and rightly so.

The trust leaders, in their glorified ivory towers, seem to have forgotten that they should be serving and consulting the views of the people of Hartlepool whom they serve.

Geoff Hare,

Kingsley Avenue,
