I AM writing in connection with my recent visit to Hartlepool.
I was pleasantly surprised by the number of small privately owned shops, as opposed to large impersonal department stores.
One particular shop stood out from the others – a traditional old-fashioned sweet shop by the name of Sweet Delight, situated in Raby Road.
The window display itself was enough to draw customers inside.
But what a joy in our busy world to find a young man who was both polite and helpful.
Congratulations to this young man who has given us an insight into past times and to yourselves who I am sure give support to smaller shops.
Let us hope this is a sign of happier times to come.
