DANIEL Cope hopes to complete the first half of a family double by winning at Summer Rumble 4.

The 24-year-old, the eldest of the active Cope fighting brothers, makes his professional debut at the bumper Sunderland show.

Cope will take on Catterick’s Andy Collins at the Stadium of Light this Sunday and 72 hours later will be in London to support brother Peter in his bid to become English super-featherweight champion.

Peter is up against it on Wednesday - he faces unbeaten Mitch Smith at the famous York Hall on a bill staged by the Londoner’s promoters, Queensbury.

But ‘Dynamite’ Daniel is convinced both Gus Robinson Developments boxers can triumph.

“I think we’ll both win,” said the welterweight, who was an ABA Novices Championship finalist in 2011.

“I can’t wait for my fight and Peter’s, it’s very exciting.

“I’m pleased with how the build up has gone and my dad [coach Peter Cope Snr] has been happy with me.

“I just want to get in there.

“I’m confident Peter can do it next week.

“Smith is supposed to be good and he’s certainly getting bigged up down London.

“He might actually be good but I think after a couple of rounds Peter can take over the fight.

“I’ve not sparred with him myself but I’ve been watching him in the gym and the way he’s looking I think he’ll be very hard to beat.”

Daniel’s debut looks a difficult bout to call.

Collins has only boxed once as a pro, beating Bheki Moyo on points in Lincolnshire, 12 months ago to the day.

The Gus Robinson Developments boxer has endured an injury interrupted two years so there is little in the way of a form guide - for either boxer.

“I don’t know a great deal about him,” said Daniel. “He’s had one and won it.

“I think he’s had something like 32 contests as an amateur and won 26, but that’s about all I know. I’ve not seen him before.

“I’ve heard he calls himself ‘the money shot’ so we’ll see on Sunday how good he is.”

Team-mate Anth Hardy is also in action at the Sunderland venue.

The Horden southpaw has been matched with Barnsley’s Jamie Zaszlos, also over four rounds.
