HARTLEPOOL boxer Nigel Wright today accused British champion Anthony Crolla of running scared of a contest with him.
Wright is desperate for a crack at “Million Dollar” Crolla at the MEN Arena in Manchester on Saturday, April 16.
The Gus Robinson boxer says he was sounded out about challenging Crolla, who is earmarked to make the first defence of his lightweight crown on the undercard of Amir Khan’s world title clash with Paul McCloskey.
Wright, who is the English champion at light-welter, made an impressive debut in his new division when he stopped previously-unbeaten prospect Jamie Speight in February.
Crolla won the vacant British title on the same night and at the same Olympia venue in LIverpool when he stopped Scouser John Watson in the ninth round.
“I’ve got respect for every fighter that steps into a ring,” Wright told SportMail. “It takes a lot of bottle to be a boxer and a great amount of hard work.
