Promoters Fighting Chance today staged a media conference at Gateshead’s Hilton Hotel to launch Cope’s British Challenge Belt contest against Abdon Cesar at Gateshead on Saturday, June 25.

Last July, the Hartlepool fighter relinquished his Northern Area title when he lost to Middlesbrough’s John Green at the Stadium of Light.

Cope has boxed only once since his defeat to Green, a messy four-rounder against Daniel Bazo in Houghton in February, though several other proposed bouts have fallen through.

The Gus Robinson Developments star will face 2012 Olympic Games boxer Cesar for this Challenge event.

The 30-year-old Cameroon fighter has made Stockton-on-Tees his home and has three wins and seven defeats on his professional tally.

Cope has 12 wins on his record with three defeats, all three coming at championship-standard, and he must avoid a fourth at Gateshead Leisure Centre.
