SAVANNAH Marshall was today named in the England team for the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
The Hartlepool boxer has been selected in the middleweight division by her country as women’s boxing makes it’s debut in the Games in Glasgow next month.
Marshall is part of a powerful squad which was announced at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield, where Great Britain’s elite boxers are based.
It is a major boost for the reigning world U75 kilo champ who missed this month’s European Championships in Romania.
The 23-year-old required surgery on her shoulder after being injured during her triumphant march towards gold at the World Combat Games in Russia last October.
Marshall had recovered but GB bosses felt she had not had enough preparation time for a major event and with the Commonwealth Games and World Championships to come they decided not to risk her in Bucharest.
But the Headland ABC star has been working hard in Sheffield and with club coach Tim Coulter and is confident she will be in good form for Glasgow.
