ANTH Hardy will have a North-East derby for his second professional appearance.
SportMail revealed on Wednesday that the 21-year-old Horden light-welterweight would be part of an exciting local team of undercard fighters at the Martin Ward v Gabriel Laryea Commonwealth title show in Houghton-le-Spring on Saturday, October 19.
And Hardy has been handed a potential thriller against Chris Bennett in a battle of the new pros.
The 24-year-old, from Newcastle, has, like Hardy, one win from one outing after beating journeyman, the late Billy Smith, at Rainton Meadows Arena back in April.
It is a tough assignment for the Gus Robinson Developments southpaw, who made a winning debut at the Summer Rumble in July when he outpointed Matt Seawright.
Promoter Phil Jeffries said: “It has the makings of a great fight. We have a brilliant English championship bout as the chief support with Sunderland versus Middlesbrough – Kirk Goodings against Paul Truscott.
“This is an interesting fight too between Bennett and Hardy.
“We want good contests which fans will like and this falls into that category.
“Both have one win from one so something will have to give.”
Hardy is working hard under coach Peter Cope at the Gus Robinson Developments gym in Hartlepool and is desperate to take his opportunity.
“This is a chance for me on a big event like this, to prove to people what I am worth and that they should look out for me on the shows around the area and further afield,” said the former Horden Sportsman ABC boxer.
“I have to do the simple things right and remember what Peter has told me through the training.”
Hartlepool neighbour Mick Hadfield is also making his second appearance at the Rainton Meadows Arena.
Easington’s Paul Archer will fight and there could be an appearance for Hartlepool’s Callum Winton who is now based in Manchester with Bob Shannon.
