PETER Cope’s Friday the 13th jinx has struck again.
The unbeaten Hartlepool boxer was due to take on Michael Stupart tomorrow night in Gateshead where he was looking to extend his winning run to nine bouts.
Cope had originally been gearing up for a Northern Area title match against Dougie Curran, only for the Geordie to pull out with an injury on Tuesday night.
Promoter Steve Wraith lined up the 29-year-old Scot as a substitute, but now the England v Scotland match has fallen through.
Gus Robinson Developments head coach - and Peter’s dad - Peter Cope Snr, said tonight’s news has capped a miserable week.
“I just don’t think it was meant to be Peter being on this show,” said the trainer.
“I got a call to say there was some discrepancy over Stupart’s medical status and that it would not be sorted out in time for the bout.
“It’s proper frustrating for Peter and for everyone.”
The show still goes on and his Hartlepool neighbour, Tommy Ward, is the star turn now with a six-round match against Hungary’s Adrian Fuzesi.
