Savannah Marshall can't wait to showcase talents on '˜free to air' TV

Her pro debut was on the pay-per-view Floyd Mayweather v Conor McGregor spectacular last year.

But this evening her second bout against Ester Konecna in Bolton is live on Channel 5.

And she is delighted that terrestrial viewers will be able to watch her showcase her talents on home soil for no extra cost.

“I am the type of person who tries to find boxing streams,” she said.

“I am really excited to be on Channel 5, as it is free for everyone to watch.

“I am not the type of person who is happy paying for fights, so it is good not to be on pay-per-view this time.”

A late change of opponent this week has not had an impact on Marshall’s preparation for this evening – with original foe Sanna Turunen pulling out a short notice.

“This week has dragged,” said Marshall ahead of the eight-rounder on the undercard of stablemate Hughie Fury’s attempts to win Sam Sexton’s British title.

“I just want to get in there and fight.

“I am in between super middle and middle, but I am going to campaign at middle.

“That’s where the big names and the big fights are.

“I am not going to go up in weight, it makes sense for me to drop the two pounds for the bigger fights.”

Meanwhile, Hartlepool-trained fighting brothers Martin Ward and Tommy Ward have this week been given fight dates.

Elder brother Martin will fight on the massive Josh Kelly and Lewis Ritson topped bill at Newcastle’s Metro Radio Arena on June 16.

He has not boxed since a failed European title attempt, in which he was stopped in two rounds by Spaniard Abigail Medina.

Younger brother Tommy, promoted by Frank Warren, has been frustrated in his attempts to take on James Dickens for a second time, having beaten him for the super bantamweight British title back in May last year.

But a date and venue has finally been set, with the bout set to take place on July 27 at Houghton’s Rainton Meadows Arena.
