SAVANNAH Marshall “can’t wait” to get her first taste of the Olympics.
The 20-year-old is a near-certain selection for the Great Britain team for London 2012 though she would still have to qualify by reaching the last 16 at May’s World Championship in China.
Marshall though will this week get a glimpse of what’s hopefully going to come next year.
The British Olympic Association are staging one of a number of ‘dummy runs’ ahead of the greatest show on earth.
And Marshall is in the GB team for boxing’s Olympic Test Event at the ExCel Arena – the auditorium where she hopes to return on August 5, 2012.
The Headland fighter and the rest of the boxing team met up in the eastend today ahead of the tournament which starts on Thursday for the men and Friday for the women.
“I can’t wait,” Marshall told SportMail. “We are getting a tour of Olympic Park today so we can see where everything is happening.
“We have our Test Event this week and I’m very excited.
“When the announcement was made back in 2009 that women’s boxing was being brought into the Olympics I was boxing in Sweden and London 2012 seemed light years away.
“But now it’s only around the corner, it’s very exciting. “It will be a good tournament.
“I haven’t had that many bouts this year so the chance of getting a contest or two at this is good.”
