Savannah Marshall in Great Britain's team for the Women's World Championships - and last crack at qualifying for Rio Olympic Games

Of course, it would have been a shock had the Hartlepool star NOT been selected. It is the former world champion’s last crack at qualifying for her second Olympic Games.

Marshall slipped up in the first qualifying event for Rio, eliminated in the last 16 in Turkey last month by France’s Erika Guerrier.

The 24-year-old must reach the semi-finals in the global tournament in Almaty, from May 19-27.

Marshall will be joined at the competition by Nicola Adams, the only female GB boxer to have booked her Rio place, Lisa Whiteside, Sandy Ryan, Chantelle Cameron and Natasha Gale.

The Headland ABC middleweight will need to turn the clock back to 2012, when she went all the way in the worlds in China.

Marshall became only the second Great Britain boxer, male or female, to become a world amateur champion, when she defeated Elena Vystropovo in the U75 kilo final on her 21st birthday. She now has to reach at least the last four in Kazakhstan to seal her spot at the Olympics
