SAVANNAH Marshall’s Olympic preparations suffered a hiccup when she was ousted in the semi-finals of the Czech Republic Grand Prix.
Marshall was forced to settle for a bronze medal in Ústí nad Labem after missing out on a hat-trick of wins over world champions.
The 20-year-old led Nadezda Torlopova for much of theiir semi-final last night only for the Russian, the world title holder at over 81 kilos to snatch a 13-10 victory in the final round.
Defeat will be hard to swallow for the Headland ABC star who sets high standards for herself and this year had been achieving them having beaten two-time world champ Anna Laurell and the planet’s U81 title winner Roseli Feitosa in their own backyards.
But GB bosses are likely to say that last night’s defeat is more an irritation than a set-back and is all part of the learning curve ahead of the World Championships in China in May and the Olympics in August.
