Frank Warren has warned Josh Leather that Glenn Foot will provide clear and present danger in Newcastle next month.

Boxing’s legendary promoter is planning a route to a world title for unbeaten Leather, who is one of his top prospects.

Glann has a good record, with 21 wins and only two losses, he’s a winning fighter.

However, the Teessider must get past Foot first in the maiden defence of his IBF European title at the Metro Radio Arena, on Saturday, November 11.

Foot will start as the outsider against the gifted 25-year-old, though the Sunderland hard man has never been a respecter of reputations.

So could the former English light-welterweight champion be a banana skin for Leather?

“He may be, he has a good record, with 21 wins and only two losses,” admitted Warren. “Glenn is a winning fighter.

“Josh is a very good boxer – I made a bee-line to sign him when he was coming out of the amateurs.

“He’s a quality young fighter and think this is a great fight for the two boxers and the North-East fans.”

Leather is a man very much on the up – the Stockton-trained boxer has won all 12 of his bouts, the last five by stoppage, including his win over Ireland’s Phillip Sutcliffe to clinch the IBF strap in Leeds back in May.

Gifted, quick, and with heavy hands, he’s a real diamond not just in the North-East, but also for Warren, who will look for world honours by this time next year, unless Foot upsets the applecart on the bumper bill in Newcastle .

The Marley Pots crowd favourite, now 29, is not quite in the last-chance saloon, but this is a vital bout for him.

“Josh won’t get a world title fight straight away but a win here will get him in the top 10 in the rankings and we’ll move him up from there,” said Warren.

“I think another four or five fights under his belt and he’ll be knocking on the door by the end of next year.

“But Josh has to get through this fight first.

“Glenn Foot is not coming to Newcastle to make up the numbers.

“He’s therefor one reason and one reason only, he wants to be the best in your area. This is a great derby.”
