The Hartlepool-trained star faces Wales fighter Robbie Turley at Houghton on Saturday in a British super-bantamweight title eliminator.

Victory would earn the 21-year-old a tilt at the domestic king James “Jazza” Dickens.

With elder brother Martin in the frame for the European 8st 10lb belt, it puts the County Durham siblings on course to attack on two frontiers.

Few brothers campaign in the same division with the very notable exception of the Klitshkos, Wladimir and Vitali, holding world titles at heavyweight for a number of years.

However, the Wards hope to carve up the super-bantam seats of power.

“Fingers crossed we can get on and do that,” Tommy told SportMail. “If I win on Saturday then I get a shot at the British title.

“Martin is number four in Europe so he’s in line for a chance for the European title.

“Hopefully by the end of this year, or the start of 2017, the Ward brothers will be British and European super-bantamweight champions.

“That would be a dream come true.”

Tommy needs to win his England v Wales battle first and he anticipates an “awkward” night at the Rainton Meadows Arena.

Turley is eight years Ward’s senior though the rivals are on the same number of wins – 16 apiece.

The former Welsh champ, from Cefn Fforest, has been the full 10 rounds for the Celtic title against IBF and WBA world winner Carl Frampton, so he is a very resilient competitor.

“The more awkward the fighter, and that’s what Turley is, the onus is on me to pick the right shots,” he said.

“If he’s moving about it’s going to be a thinking match on my part.

“I’m looking forward to that and I’m very switched on and very confident.”

Ward will have Neil Fannan in his corner and the NES Securities-sponsored talent says that he has total faith in his trainer and hopes to deliver the perfect display.

“Neil will come up with the tactics and I will follow them,” he said. “Three minutes are mine and the minute in between rounds is all Neil.”
